2020 Junior Summer Training

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Junior Committee are delighted to open registration for the SSC 2020 Junior Training Programme.
We have carefully reviewed government phased reopening guidelines, as well as Irish Sailing Association’s ‘Return to Sailing’.   We will continue to review the plans as we receive further advice from the government and ISA.

If you have questions about the training content, please contact  Junior Training Officer: Olive Parker at oliveparker69@yahoo.ie

If you have questions about registration, payment or Zoom links, please contact Junior Convenor Nora Pyne at juniors.skerriessailingclub@gmail.com or 0862296647

Happy sailing!!

In order to get the sailors on the water we have organised 3 parts:

Part 1: June Online Training – Getting Ready to Sail

This is a free SSC Juniors online program to help sailors get ready to return to sailing.  It is highly recommended for all sailors intending to take part in July training, as July sailors MUST be able to rig and launch their own boats.

Coaches George, Kerri-ann, Sorcha, Frances, Ella, Emma, Andrew, Sophie and Megan made review videos on how to tie the various knots and rig Optimists, Mirrors, Lasers and Toppers.  Kerri-ann is hosting fun junior sailing quizzes on Zoom for sailors (with a parent/guardian) on Thursday June 11th, 18th and 25th from 7-8 pm.

Zoom invitations and video links will be sent to the email parents/guardians provide with registration.  Parents/Guardians are encouraged to watch the rigging/knots videos with their sailors.

Follow the June registration link in order to register for June training. Please submit one form for each child.

Part 2: July Training – Sailing for fun!

Government Stage 3 begins June 29th. We will be permitted to run training for up to 15 people, including instructors and coaches.  Please note sailors are permitted to travel to SSC up to 20 km or from anywhere in County Dublin.  We will be obliged to ensure training is non-contact and that we adhere to 2m social distancing requirements for people from different households.
In order to maximise the opportunity to get back on the water, training will be divided into half day sessions and each sailor will be offered the same two sessions a week for 4 weeks in July.
