Louth County Council have approved a pontoon for the port of Drogheda, to be located on the south side of the river near Scotch Hall and to be ready in time for next year’s Maritime Festival!
For further information about this great addition to local cruising conditions see the web report! The new pontoon will accommodate up to ten vessels at a time.
Anyone who has ventured up the Boyne in the past will know the difficulties. Reach the entrance in time to take the flood up-river. Then, due to a lack of safe mooring, scarper back out of the river before you get stuck! All this will change and Drogheda will become an attractive target for sailors. The town has so much to offer historically and the central location of the pontoon will make it great for stocking up.
Thanks to Paul Harrison for passing on this story!
