Next Wednesday Evening Talk ==> Charting the Shannon

Wednesday 14th November, 8.30pm

A presentation by Les Saunders from the Charts Special Interest Group (CSIG) project within the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland in Skerries Sailing Club.  In the past our waterways were chartered in a rudimentary fashion and with the many changes that time brings – farming/industrial runoffs, dredging, changing water levels, etc – it has long been understood that there is a need to establish a much more reliable data set.  To this end Les and his team have been running the project for over 6 years now, and have over 7 million soundings, covered from Limerick to Beleek, the canals and Barrow, and other off navigation lakes.  Les will talk to this project and perhaps how the approach used may be extended to the shores off the north county.  Les has held the role of PRO in the CSIG since its formation in 2011. He is an elected Council Member of the IWAI and represents the CSIG on the IWAI Executive. He is also the current Commodore of Gortmore Boat Club in Terryglass.

Club open at 8.00pm. Non Members Welcome.  Bring a friend!
