Cruising to Skerries

Approaches to Skerries by Sea

Approaches to Skerries

With thanks to Brian Lennon - SSC Member and Avid Cruiser

In the document you will find information on approaching Skerries by sea.

In all approaches to Skerries by sea great care should be taken to steer well clear of the islands including Red Island due to the rocky foreshores and sandy banks that stretch out from them. Sailing between the land and Colt or Shenick Islands is not recommended without very good local knowledge.

Navigating the Irish Sea

While the allure of the Irish Sea is undeniable, its waters can be unpredictable. It is crucial to check weather forecasts and tide tables before setting sail. The waters around Skerries can become particularly challenging during adverse weather conditions, especially in strong northerly and easterly winds.
