Proud of Local Sailors' Achievements at the 2024 Olympics

Our local sailors Robert Dickson (HYC) and Seán Waddilove (SSC), unfortunately narrowly missed a podium finish in the men's skiff event after a tough day on the water. They began the medal race in a strong second position, but misfortune at the start meant they turned back and re-crossed the line, leaving them with a lot to do. This resulted in them still finishing in an superb 4th position overall, but just missing out on the bronze medal to the USA.
Despite missing out in a medal, Seán reflected positively on their performance during an interview with RTE, highlighting their strong perfomaces throughout the week: "It's tough, but it cant take away from the fact we sailed an absolutely fantastic week, it's been our best regatta to date, so we can be proud of that. It came down to a 20-minute race, but the whole week we sailed fantastically." Dickson echoed this sentiment, acknowledging their overall excellent performance and the narrow margin of error that cost them a medal.
There was a super turnout on both days in Skerries Sailing Club with members of all ages focused on the big screen during the medal race.
We now turn our focus to the Irish sailor in other events, Eve McMahon (current U21 ILCA 6 world champion) and Finn Lynch in the ILCA 7 class.
